Stacey Dash just made stunning announcement about her Republican congressional campaign

Actress Stacey Dash has proven to be as “Clueless” as a political candidate as she was as a contributor on Fox News, and today abruptly ended her one-month-old run for Congress.

Dash, who is a rare African American Republican conservative, had filed on Feb. 26 to run for a House of Representatives seat in Southern California’s 44th district, which includes low-income areas like Compton and Watts, both of which have mostly minority populations who vote heavily Democratic.

When she entered the race, Dash wrote that she believes “we live under a system of ‘Plantation Politics,’ which offers people on the lower end of the economic spectrum little more than symbolic gestures instead of true political empowerment and improvement.”

Apparently, Dash found that her potential voters did not agree with her support of President Trump, her support for gun owners rights, or other controversial statements one might expect from Jeff Sessions but not from her.

She summed it up in a statement sent to Cosmopolitan magazine today about why she was giving up her run for public office so quickly:

“My goal was, and remains, to improve the lives of people who have been forgotten for decades by the Democratic party.”

“At this point, I believe that the overall bitterness surrounding our political process, participating in the rigors of campaigning, and holding elected office would be detrimental to the health and well being of my family.”

Dash has been married three times and has two children by two of her husbands, but is currently single.

Originally from The Bronx, New York, Dash began acting on TV in the early 1980s and had her greatest success in the 1995 blockbuster movie “Clueless,” a role she later re-created for a short-lived TV series. Her acting career since has seen her appear in a few movies and TV shows, none of which rose to the level of success she had with “Clueless.”

Dash was a Democrat at least until 2008 when she voted for Barack Obama for President, but in 2012 switched her affiliation to the Republican party, supporting Mitt Romney that year for president. Being a black conservative was so novel that in 2014 Dash was hired by Fox News to contribute “cultural analysis and commentary.”

In 2015, she attacked President Obama on the air claiming he didn’t “give a shit” about Islamic terrorism, which got her suspended from the network without pay for two weeks.

In 2016, Dash said on Fox & Friends that the BET Awards lied to black people about the attempted boycott of the Academy Awards by African Americans because of a lack of black representation, and she also called for an end to Black History Month.

In January 2017, Fox News announced it would not renew Dash’s contract.

Dash said her decision to end her campaign was made after “much prayer, introspection, and discussions with my family,” and added that she will “go where God is leading me.” Cosmopolitan reported she did not specify where that would be.

Her acting career on a downward spiral, her attempts at marriage a failure, her career as a conservative commentator flamed out, and now her attempt to gain elective office a bust, Dash seems to be running low on options.

Every American has a right to speak their mind, even if they know as little about life, politics, and culture as Dash seems to know, but being a black conservative does not appear to be an easy path to success in Hollywood, Washington,D.C. or in Los Angeles, and that is unlikely to change for Dash.
