A top House Republican just abruptly resigned in disgrace

Republican Congressperson Blake “Fiscal Responsibility” Farenthold (TX) has become the latest member of his disgraceful party to resign in shame.

Farenthold was relatively unknown to anyone other than his constituents until last year when he came under fire after he settled a sexual harassment claim for $84,000 using taxpayer money.

He conveniently left out the actual reason for his resignation – wasteful spending and existing on the wrong side of the #MeToo movement – in a statement announcing the end of his tenure.

“Since being elected to Congress in 2010, I’ve worked to make government more efficient and responsive, cut government spending, repeal Obamacare, protect life and reduce the debt,” Farenthold said nearly choking on the irony.

“Locally, I’ve worked tirelessly to get federal funding for the widening and deepening project at the Port of Corpus Christi and help our other area ports and military facilities. I’ve also been extremely successful in working with our communities on recovering from Hurricane Harvey. Most importantly, I’ve been able to help countless people, especially veterans with their problems with the federal government,” he continued.

The Republican Party is no stranger to these types of scandals, considering the high-profile lawsuit against President Trump by Stephanie “Stormy Daniels” Clifford. Just yesterday, Trump finally publicly acknowledged his own hush payment of $130,000 to the adult film star made shortly before the 2016 presidential election.

Of course, for Trump, “publicly acknowledged” means that he spoke about it to the press, denying he knew anything about it. He also claimed he never authorized his attorney Michael Cohen to make the payment, nor did he provide funds to Cohen to cover the cost. Cohen took the fall for the payout earlier this year.

Subsequently, Clifford’s attorney Michael Avanetti made his rounds on the cable news networks last night, explaining that Trump’s ignorance toward the payment further dissolves the NDA he forced upon Daniels. The NDA had previously been scrutinized once Clifford’s legal team realized President Deals forgot to sign it.

If we can take anything away from Farenthold’s resignation, it’s that sometimes bad people do get their comeuppance. If Ms. Clifford stands her ground, Trump may get his, too.
