Ana Navarro just gave the best response to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner controversy

Ana Navarro just gave the best response to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner controversy

In a stomach-churning display of shameless hypocrisy, Republicans are rushing en masse to pillory comedian Michelle Wolf for her performance at the White House Correspondents’ dinner, accusing her of being cruel and needlessly insulting to members of the Trump administration.

In reality, all Wolf did was correctly criticize White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders for professionally lying to the American people day in and day out. Yet somehow, a large swath of mainstream journalists have decided to side with Trump and his cronies.

The degree of mental gymnastics one has to embrace in order to villainize the woman calling out the administration for their flagrant mendacity while ignoring the fact that Trump himself has personally insulted numerous people, including women, for their appearances is staggering. The faux outrage is disingenuous and proffered in bad faith. Trump and his lackeys are some of the most powerful people in the world. They can’t be “bullied.”

Now, Republican pundit and outspoken Trump critic Ana Navarro has weighed in on the “scandal.” She pointed out how hypocritical many journalists are being hypocritical by slamming Wolf when the president has mocked women for their appearance on numerous occasions. He’s a vile, vulgar man and those around him pretending to be furious over Wolf’s comedy routine were silent when Trump was lobbing his disgusting attacks at anyone he deemed an enemy.

Navarro also pointed out that the Trump administration wants us to take Wolf seriously while simultaneously chalking Trump’s worst comments up as “jokes.” It’s an untenable double standard that shields the cryptofascists leading our country from much-needed criticism while muzzling those who would seek to expose them. It’s bootlicking at its worst.

Navarro concluded by saying that she doesn’t personally enjoy roasts, but that one can’t ignore Trump’s rhetoric and choose to get selectively angry over Wolf’s. She is, of course, spot on. More pundits should have the spine to call this scandal out for what it is: a cynical exercise in self-victimization by people who routinely use their power to victimize others.
