Marco Rubio just threw a fit about the media. The Miami New Times’ response is devastating

Marco Rubio just threw a fit about the media. The Miami New Times’ response is devastating

Even compared to other high-profile politicians, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) is a prolific tweeter.  From well-intentioned but inevitably thirsty tweets about hip-hop, to sanctimonious and passive-aggressive Bible verses, to the run of the mill political statements and retweets you’d expect from a typical lawmaker, the Florida Republican can rack up dozens of posts on any given day.

And yet, nearly 24 hours after the latest senseless mass shooting at the Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis, Maryland, a story that has dominated the news cycle and infuriated the entire nation, Sen. Rubio has yet to tweet anything about it.  Not even an empty “thoughts and prayers” from the guy. As callous as that may have been, it would have been lightyears better than his inexplicable radio silence on the matter – especially considering his open support for gun proliferation and all the money he’s accepted from the NRA.

What Sen. Rubio did find time to text this morning, as the survivors and victims families awoke to a world turned upside down by yesterday’s tragedy? A critique of the media for using – gasp – the “F” word.

Yes, after yesterday’s shock and sadness turned into today’s mourning and outrage, Marco Rubio is concerned about the someone saying “f*ck.”

“Sign of our times… the F word is now routinely used in news stories, tweets etc,” he wrote this morning.  “It’s not even F*** anymore. Who made that decision?”

First of all, Senator, seeing as we don’t have a Ministry of Truth – at least not yet – nobody makes these decisions.  In a free society with a free press – which America still is, despite the best efforts of Rubio’s fellow Republican, President Trump – each publication decides what it will print or not print, and it will then deal with any consequences that arise.

Secondly… um, really?  This is the issue you decided to start today addressing?  Rubio has been attacking the press on Twitter all week, and so he didn’t exactly pull this doozy out of thin air this morning.  That said, times change, and when tragedy strikes you should shelve your petty feuds for at least a day or two to acknowledge realities, particularly in the wake of five murders and the wounding of many others.

The Miami New Times, from Senator Rubio’s hometown, responded to him in the best way possible, with a big, bold “F-U” headline on it’s website.

Responding to Sen. Rubio’s question about who decided it was okay to print the “F” word, Tim Elfrink of the New Times said, “That’s a tough question to answer, Marco, but here at New Times, we’re making the decision to ask you, in all sincerity, to shut the fuck up about “the media” already.”

More from the Miami New Times:

“…even before the unspeakable tragedy in Maryland, Rubio spent most of this week on an ignorant Twitter rant against the press. He apparently has little better grasp of how journalism works in America than your uncle who spends his free time between InfoWars binges posting George Soros memes on Facebook.”

After completely exposing Sen. Rubio’s utter callousness, Elfrink goes on to thoroughly dismantle Rubio’s earlier tweets about the press, which you can read here.

Meanwhile, we’re still waiting for the Rubio to acknowledge yesterday’s senseless tragedy.  Since his home state of Florida suffered the horrendous massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in the Miami suburb of Parkland just 4 months ago, he should know better.
