Trump just publicly threw his personal lawyer under the Mueller bus

It’s looking more and more like that Michael Cohen, Trump’s longtime attorney and bagman, may end up flipping on the president in order to save his own skin. The two have been co-conspirators for years, and if anyone knows where all the bodies are buried it’s Cohen.

On Wednesday, MSNBC‘s Katy Tur reported that Cohen had been told by federal prosecutors that they are preparing to arrest him.

Now, the president himself has revealed — or knowing Trump simply decided on the spot — that Michael Cohen is no longer his lawyer. While talking to reporters, Trump claimed that he hasn’t spoken to Cohen in a long time. When asked if he was still legally represented by him, Trump said no.

“No, he’s not my lawyer anymore, but I always liked Michael. And he’s a good person,” Trump said.

One can’t help but interpret the complementary nature of his comments through the lens of a man possibly trying to convince a former friend not to flip on him. Throughout the statements, Trump repeatedly insisted that he did nothing wrong in only the way that someone who definitely did something wrong can.

In April, the FBI raided Cohen’s Trump Tower office as well as his hotel room, seizing mountains of evidence. It’s still unclear what crimes Cohen may be charged with, but some have suggested that his $130,000 hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels on behalf of Trump may have constituted a campaign finance violation.

It’s also possible that Cohen is set to be indicted for some kind of role in colluding with Russia during the 2016 election judging by his historically close relationship with Trump and his knowledge of most of his doings.

On top of that, The Wall Street Journal recently reported that Cohen could go down for illegal lobbying. In other words, things are looking extremely grim for Trump’s former attorney.
