A Republican propaganda site just went viral with a fake “interview” with Ocasio-Cortez. Her response is epic

A Republican propaganda site just went viral with a fake “interview” with Ocasio-Cortez. Her response is epic

Yesterday, a video shared by right-wing Facebook page CRTV took off in conservative social media circles — but there’s a huge problem.

The conversation depicted between CRTV’s Tomi Lahren-wannabe, Allie Beth Stuckey, and rising Democratic star Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez never actually happened. Ocasio-Cortez’s answers were actually given during a recent appearance on the PBS show “Firing Line.”

Stuckey asks “Ocasio-Cortez” a number of snarky and dismissive questions about her experience then chops up Ocasio-Cortez’s answers and responses to make her look bad.

She then goes in on Ocasio-Cortez’s progressive political beliefs, condescendingly trashing her with tired and trite right-wing talking points without giving her a chance to actually respond.

CRTV posted it and failed to indicate in any way that the footage was edited until it had more than a million views, ensuring that all of their gullible followers now believe that this actually happened and her character permanently besmirched — and the comments from the viewers are absolutely disgusting to behold.

They even digitally added her show’s logo to the background to reinforce the perception that is was a real interview.

Under heavy criticism for their fake interview, CRTV is now desperately backtracking and trying to claim that it was “satire,” which it certainly is not. There is nothing satirical or humorous about that video — but considering the way that the right-wing immediately has a conniption over actual satire and refuses to engage with anything in good faith, they definitely can’t be allowed to get away with using “it was just a prank” as an excuse for their fake news.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter to respond — and immediately got to the heart of the matter, which is that Republicans are genuinely scared of her message and the way that it resonates with people across political lines.

In case you needed any evidence that Ocasio-Cortez hit the nail right on the head, look no further than right-wing agitprop site the Daily Caller, who sent editor Virginia Kruta to a joint Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders rally in St. Louis — and she was “very uncomfortable” with what she saw.

“They talk about things that everybody wants, especially if you’re a parent — they talk about education for your kids, health care for your kids. Things that you want. If you’re not really paying attention to how they’re going to pay for it, or the rest of that, it’s easy to fall into that trap and say, ‘my kids deserve this, and maybe the government should be responsible for helping me with that.”

They want those things because they know that their kids do deserve this and the government absolutely should be responsible for helping them with that — and it’s not just their children who deserve education and healthcare, but their entire families.

The right wing is terrified of these ideas because they know just how powerful the appeal of a political philosophy that puts the needs of regular Americans above those of big business or the oligarch class can be — and could be the key to a stunning Democrat victory in 2020.
