Last night, the nation learned from the New York Times that President Trump had flown into a rage when he discovered that his wife’s television on Air Force One had been tuned to CNN, causing enough of a “stir” that his staffers felt the need to discuss it in their internal communications.
This morning, the First Lady made it clear that she will not be dictated to by her husband and will watch whatever she damn pleases.
Stephanie Grisham, Melania Trump’s spokeswoman, was asked about both the release of former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen’s secret recording of the President and about the kerfuffle on Air Force One.
In response, she released a statement complaining that the media didn’t want to cover the meager work Melania’s been doing to help combat bullying — and added in a jab at the President for trying to dictate what Melania watches in the privacy of her own separate bedroom.
NEW: I asked @StephGrisham45 whether @FLOTUS had comment on the new Trump/Cohen tape details, and if she indeed was watching @CNN aboard Air Force One, upsetting the president, as @maggieNYT & @katierogers reported last night. Here's the response I got: pic.twitter.com/SJbxbnolMp

NAS refers to neonatal abstinence syndrome, the medical term for babies suffering from opioid withdrawal symptoms after birth due to drug use by their mothers while in utero.
Yesterday, the First Lady visited Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, to visit with babies afflicted by neonatal abstinence syndrome and participated in a roundtable discussion with doctors and healthcare workers on combating the opioid crisis as part of her #BeBest initiative.
While the First Lady’s efforts to better the lives of children around the nation are all very well and good, it’s very telling that after just one event the Melania Trump team is already milking it for all it’s worth.
It’s ridiculous and pretty shameful for her spokeswoman to use bullied kids as a whataboutery to deflect from questions about a tape of the President discussing the hush money payment to his mistress and about the bullying of his staff over a TV channel.
But then again, it’s just as absurd for the First Lady to be running an anti-bullying campaign at all, considering that her husband is the world’s most prominent cyberbully.
Given this kind of response after one event, we have to question whether or not she’s sincere in her desire to help children — or just in need of a photo-op and some positive publicity.
