Trump just unleashed an embarrassing, unprovoked personal attack on the head of CNN

- 11.10

It’s a beautiful day in America, and our unhinged president is treating us to another one of his rambling, paranoid tweetstorms. His mind appears particularly disjointed today, as the tweets bounce from one unrelated topic to another. One, in particular, reminds us exactly how far the Office of the President has fallen.

During his Twitter tantrum, Trump took aim at one of his favorite enemies, CNN, accusing them of “hatred and extreme bias.” In reality, CNN simply reports on the president honestly, recounting the myriad ways in which he is eroding democratic norms and bumbling his way through his executive tenure. Such reporting, by its very nature, paints Trump in a bad light, but there is no honest way of reporting on Trump that would make him look good.

In his tweet, Trump zeroed in on Jeff Zucker, attacking the CEO of NBC Universal who oversees CNN. He referred to him as “Little Jeff Z” a reference to Zucker’s 5-foot-6-inch stature. It’s the kind of moronic insult one would expect from a not-particularly-bright schoolyard bully.

To put it further into perspective: the President of the United States — a man with a massive nuclear arsenal at his fingertips, the Commander-in-Chief of the world’s greatest military, a man who presides over the world’s largest economy — believes that the best use of his time is cyberbullying an executive involved with a media company that sometimes hurts his feelings with its news stories.

It’s utterly pathetic in the truest sense of the word, but unfortunately the kind of pettiness we’ve come to expect from this jumped-up manchild.

President Trump mocked CNN’s ratings, claimed Zucker has done a terrible job, and then encouraged AT&T to fire him to “save credibility.” It’s unclear why Trump even bothered to write this tweet beyond the obvious fact that it’ll incite his base further against the media (on the same day that the FBI announced the arrest of a man who threatened to shoot up a newspaper no less).

Surely, Trump doesn’t honestly believe AT&T is going to heed his advice? No rational human being at this puts any real stock in anything the president has to say. He’s a crazed old man yelling into the digital void.
